tower of power

Contemplating bringing this guy back. It's a difficult design to build, but has been getting ALL the love lately - even buried in a jumble... Vintage brass mesh watchband strip wrapped around huge, faceted, smoky quartz bugle beads - and anchored with a tiny vintage brass curb chain.

weathered patinas

New pieces for upcoming Holiday shows: weathered patinas in brass mesh, here with oxidized sterling silver chain detailing. Whether it's reclaimed vintage metal mesh or new, raw brass with a hand-weathered finish--the soft, muted effect makes for earthy jewelry that still flashes in the light.

long delay - quick update

Just a quick update on the work: Finalizing designs and testing patinas for the addition of new mesh to the vintage materials. And sterling! As originally intended...

Great style at end-of-summer Indie Mart

Flaxen hair, sequins, and neon...
I only wish I'd gotten a shot of her futuristic/geo ring. This girl was so on.
And her jacket looks good with my new neon and leather pieces -- which were a hit!

Mesh, feathers, horn, and crystals - and so much more. This guy was my fave for the day.

New Fall pieces wrap the vintage stud mesh onto fat leather cording...

Also a hit. Love!
It was a fantastic day for me - both personally and professionally. Great connections and fun to say Hi to mesh lovers, new and old. Thanks to all who came out!

YAY to Kelly Malone and SF's Indie Mart - there's just nothing like it. Of course, there was stellar style on display at this BEST, end-of-summer Indie Mart; it draws a great crowd. I'm heartbroken that a camera card glitch prevents me from showing the rest of the best. /sigh/ Next time. (Hey: to the girl sporting the awesome tooled leather bag with eight-inch skeleton key closure: EMAIL ME! I need more pics!)

Another Indie Mart, then Urban Air Market in three weeks! Back to work.

in the studio

Turning out some more playful neon fluorescence for late summer jewelry: powder coated metal mesh and re-purposed vintage '80s sequin swatches...

And on the horizon for Fall: A variety of 'framed mesh' sautoirs!

red, white, and blue... pink, orange, and green...

Turns out I do have a tricolor post for today, although it's of a decidedly more personal bent... neon green, orange, and pink! Playful baubles for summer - made with fluorescent sequins culled from the most amazing vintage '80s bomber jacket. In the shop soon.

Happy 4th of July!

North Beach Festival 2012

Perusing the wares on a breezy Sunday afternoon...

The owner of these amazing eyes was kind enough to let me take a few shots while she tried on a new headpiece.

Headpieces! Okay, the bottom one is actually a neckplate, but the top is a new direction in mesh headpieces.

knots

New line on the horizon—knots knots knots. (Well-placed knots, that is...) Simultaneously rustic/raw/tough and rich/luxemy ultimate fave. Thoroughly convertible, utterly wearable works. These looks all from one piece. (So excited!)

the brite side

Under the heading 'Things You Cannot Tell Just by Looking at Her,' apparently Miuccia Prada has been known to favor fluorescent underwear. I find myself surprised by this. Also thoroughly charmed.

Neon fluorescents have been throwing a party in their own little corner of the fashion scene for a while and Spring 2012 sees the trend blow up, hitting both high and low. Bright (brite!) colors are interpreted in a range of tones, some less electric but no less interesting, appearing now in playful pairings and complex, unlikely mixes.

Nanette Lepore, Peter Som, Christopher Kane, Marc Jacobs via Style.com

Whether you go all out with electric-kool-aid-acid color, or gravitate toward a slightly softer, more plastic-fantastic hue, there's a bright color for every taste. Consider a single pop played against warm neutrals this season—it's the freshest take yet.

Jil Sander, Isabel Marant, Acne all styled at Totokaelo.com   /   2012 m&m colors

I'm so excited to be playing with these great colors. Stay tuned for a new line of fluorescent-popped Framed Mesh works: rich, enameled finishes in complex color combos for your palette-mixing pleasure!

SHOW: This Saturday - Firehouse 8 Fundraiser

This Saturday is "Shop Small Business Saturday" - and there's no better way to celebrate than by helping this retail/art/design/community hub get off the ground. We'll be joining other local SF artists, designers, and more at a fundraiser for Firehouse 8, the impressive community vision of Teresa Nittolo, owner of Molte Cose and Belle Cose shops.

It takes quite a bit of energy, time, and money to remodel a historic landmark firehouse, transforming it into a go-to gathering spot - but that is exactly what Teresa and her partner Gavin are doing. If you're in San Francisco for the holiday, I hope you can join me and other local SF creatives at Saturday's fundraiser, and let your holiday shopping dollars help bring this much-anticipated hub for artists, community-building, and small business to life!

About Firehouse 8, from the venue's web site:

Creating A Collaborative Space & Creative Environment

  • Our goal is to meet, socialize, educate and flourish together.
  • The first floor will be mixed retail and coffee supporting local artisans, suppliers & vendors.
  • The second floor will be a community assembly space available for rental: seminars, meetings, gallery openings, weddings & special occasions. We will host events with local talents, artists, chefs, musicians, photographers, speakers & writers. This space will be a philanthropic hub geared towards programs for children and our local fire department.
  • Firehouse 8 is a creative environment where art and commerce merge to form a unique space. Together we hope to inspire preservation and growth in our community.

Treasure Island Music Festival

Along with the ferris wheel rides, games, food, creative vendors and happenings, and of course--the music, Kelly Malone of Workshop SF created a huge, interactive, DIY/game/campsite area. People were having a great time building terrariums, sewing, chilling in the outdoor lounge - complete with comfy sofa and coffee table - or lounging in one of several pillow-strewn teepees... She makes a thoroughly welcoming environment, and people really enjoyed it.

But let's talk about the lovely festival-goers who came to my booth! I have such fun meeting people who love this mesh, and it's a special joy when they forgo the box and insist on wearing the jewelry right away. Here are three of several stylish gals who walked away wearing their recent purchases!

two-tier triangle station necklace   -   black and white fringed earrings   -   diamond inset banner earrings

This time the booth was simply a six foot table, so one small display had to rise to the occasion. Note to self: if you triple the display height it will be very difficult to see around it to greet people! Fortunately my neighboring designers were very friendly and let me shift around a bit...

By the end of the weekend quite a few of these pieces had found new homes. Sometimes it can be a little hard to say goodbye, and with several one-(or two)-of-a-kind pieces gone, I look forward to the next vintage bag find, and all the new jewelry it will inspire!

And finally, in case you didn't catch that poster on the far left side of the table... please see the latest jewelry model - so ably demonstrating that the mesh looks great on guys, too!

Next event will be an evening trunk show at the Blue Muse in SF. Come have a cocktail and shop the local SF wares! It's Halloween-themed, so we may opt for a costume... more details soon.

Indie Mart was so much fun!!

Kelly Malone has made a real scene with San Francisco's Indie Mart, drawing talented makers and musicians - it's a really good time. The weather was perfect, the music was great, and meeting so many people who love this jewelry as much as I do - well, it's the very best way to spend a day!

The beaming faces of happy customers is my new adrenaline -- makes the late nights and long days worth every one.

The wood displays are definitely an undertaking to transport - but once they're up it's such a nice space...
... and really makes it easy to see and shop all the jewelry.

Huge thanks to everyone who came by the booth - you made my day.  Now off to prepare for the next showing - Treasure Island Music Festival is this weekend!

first public market - first Press!

I'm so honored and excited to be named one of TheFeast.com's "favorite newbies" at the recent Urban Air Market. My first public venue, and my first Press! It's a real thrill to be mentioned, and in such good company...
